New update on my life

For the last month my mouth has been in a constant state of distress.

It all began when Corryn and I were about to travel to my childhood home in New York. The night before we were to leave I didn't sleep at all because my second molar was aching. I finally ended up rolling out of bed at around 7 and driving to the dentist's office. I waited outside till about 9:30 for someone to show up. The doctor ran out for a second threw me a prescription for an antibiotic and then I went to the airport.
Throughout the trip I was in incredible pain. At random times it would flare up and there was nothing I could do but shut my eyes and clench my fists. Finally as we were about to leave to drive back across country I went to the dentist in New York. He prescribed another antibiotic that finally cleared up the problem.
When we got back to Utah I finally decided to get all my problems taken care of. Turns out I needed 3 wisdom teeth pulled an a root canal. Imagine my excitement.
So the wisdom teeth came out last week. It wasn't too bad. The dentist had to yank on one for about ten minuted before it would budge. But after that the drugs made everything numb. The only miserable thing is that I had huge holes in my mouth and couldn't eat real food. So after a few days of soup and smoothies I was starting to feel okay. Just in time for my root canal.
So now I am in pain again. I still cant chew normally and I have to go and get a cap next week.
If I wasn't getting married in 3 weeks my life would be miserable.

Marriage Part II

I haven't put up a post in a while. Probably because I have had a lot on my mind. Track is over, I'm still looking for a job, and I'm engaged to a beautiful girl. But now the hard part is over for me. Corryn gets to stress about the wedding plans now. I get to show up and nod and say things like "sure that looks good" and "I don't care honey, it's your big day do what you want."

Marriage

I took up a job a few weeks ago doing some editing work for a marriage and family counselor in Texas. It has really been wonderful. I have realized how important a secure marriage and how difficult it is to achieve. Since I have been dating Corryn I realize that love is a lot of work and sacrifice. Relationships are fragile and we need to continually monitor them so that we can keep them stable.
The single most important thing I will do in my life to get married. After that the most important thing that I will do is keep that marriage successful.
A while ago when this blog was part of the internet magazine I was trying to start I wrote an article about a Readers Digest bit that I read. Sadly I deleted the post when I decided not to do the magazine anymore.
Something that I realized while reading the Readers Digest story was that we are paralyzed by fear in our relationships. We are so afraid to fail that we forget how to succeed. I believe that if we focus on having success and not preventing failure we would have much happier and loving relationships.
Lets be real, who wants a marriage that is just holding on; tied together with string and glue and tape. I for one do not.

America Save Yourself!

I went to a Tea-Party last week and not the kind with actual tea and crumpets. ;-)
It was very interesting. I thought it was just going to be a bunch of radicals shouting about how the man was getting them down. There was a little bit of that but it was a lot more reasonable than I expected. Here are just a few of my thoughts and the main points of the meeting.

One of the men who spoke talked about how our rights are God given. The Declaration of Independence says that men are "endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights..." The only way that the government can take our rights is if we choose to give them. We do this by accepting government money and government programs. His solution to the problem was getting Idaho to stop accepting money and balance its own budget. Which I think is incredibly unrealistic. The only way that is possible is if the state raised its own taxes or did away with a lot of government funded programs and projects. The citizenry would never go for something like that. No more money to fix our roads and parks and bail us out when we have screwed ourselves with poor decisions. It’s a shame or sham because we are just fooling ourselves. The system is broken and the only way it can be fixed is by individual citizens taking responsibility and making sacrifices. Too bad I don’t ever see how that will happen.

Silly Americans.

Arizona

So I felt like my hamstring was going to explode but I ran anyway. It turned out alright. I ran 54.3 in the 400 hurdles. Not bad considering I took almost a month off trying to diagnose my foot. I'm just glad it wasn't a stress fracture. The cortisone seems to be helping it doesn't hurt as much anymore.

My Ten Seconds Of Fame

Last fall BYU made national sports news for an unsportsmanlike debacle during a game with New Mexico. The incident made it onto ESPN and caused a storm of controversy as to whether players involved should be suspended.
After seeing the incident and all the hate that it created I wrote a letter to Elizabeth Lambert via the Daily Lobo, New Mexico’s school news paper.
The Daily Lobo published my letter and it made the news in a couple different places. Including a mention on ABC News.
